يجمع هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه فائدة كبرى للباحثين، وطلبة الدراسات العليا في الجامعات العربية، فضلاً عن المهتمين بالتعرف على أوضاع الأراضي المقدسة في العصور الوسطى، ووصفها من قبل الرحالة خلال مرحلة هامة في تاريخ هذه المنطقة، تعود إلى زمن الحروب الفرنجية الصليبية.
تعتبر رحلة دانيال الروسي أول رحلة مدونة إلى الأراضي المقدسة، وقد ذكر الرحالة الروسي سبعة وتسعين موضعاً في هذا الكتاب، زارها جميعاً ووصفها وصفاً واقعياً من وجهة نظره، وكان أولها بيت المقدس ودير القديس سابا وآخرها النور المقدس، وقد شملت هذه المواقع من حيث الرقعة الجغرافية فلسطين والأردن ولبنان وبعض جزر البحر المتوسط.
وما تميزت به رحلة الراهب دانيال أنه كان يحدد المسافات، بعد كل مكان يزوره عن الأماكن السابقة أو اللاحقة في الرحلة، كما كان يعني بأبعاد بعض الأماكن الدينية.
إن هذا الكتاب جدير بالقراءة المتأنية لما فيه من معلومات عن أماكن كثيرة هامة نلتصق بها، وهذه المعلومات ترجع إلى عشرة قرون خلتـ وهذا ما يضفي على مثل هذا النوع من الأدب (أدب الرحلات) أهمية كبرى باعتباره من العلوم المساعدة لدراسة التاريخ والجغرافيا والاقتصاد وكثير من العلوم الأخرى.
