يعد موضوع هذا الكتاب "المعنى الشعري وجماليات التلقي في التراث النقدي والبلاغي" إمتداداً أو إكتمالاً لموضوع بحث سابق للمؤلفة هو "التضمين في التراث النقدي والبلاغي" وكلاهما يبحث في موقف النظرية النقدية القديمة من طروحات النقد الحديث في النص، والتلقي، والتأويل.
ولقد أرجعت المؤلفة سبب اختيارها لموضوع هذا الكتاب، فهو عدم طرقه من أي باحث منذ أن ألف الدكتور مصطفى ناصف قبل حوالي أربعين عاماً كتابه المسمى: "نظرية المعنى في النقد العربي"، وبناء على هذا تألف الكتاب من فصول ثلاثة، هي: الفصل الأول، وعنوانه: الشاعر صانع نص ومنتج معنى حيث تناولت فيه المؤلفة مهمة الشاعر بصفته مبدع النص الذي يحوي معاني كونتها رؤاه الخاصة، والفصل الثاني بعنوان: النص أو جدلية اللفظ والمعنى، حيث ناقشت في هذا الفصل أفكار النقاد والبلاغيين في مسألة اللفظ والمعنى، سائرة في ذلك مساراً تاريخياً، مبتدئة بالجاحظ ومن تبعه من أعلام القرن الثالث الهجري، والفصل الثالث بعنوان: المعنى والتلقي - آليات الإنتاج والتأويل بحثت فيه أشكال تلقي الشعر في النقد العربي.
