يأتي كتاب العنف في العراق، دراسة سوسيولوجية تحليلية نقدية في أسباب العنف في هذا الوقت ليحقق مطلباً مهماً من مطالب دراسة هذه الظاهرة بهدف تحديدها وإحتوائها وتذليل أسبابها في العراق الذي بات العنف يشكل سمة لمظاهر الحياة اليومية فيه.
وقد تناول الباحث هذه الظاهرة بروح علمية ونظرة ثاقبة وموضوعية وبخطوات علمية أفرد لها فصولاً ومباحثاً في هذا الكتاب ليتضمن معنى العنف وأنواعه والتفسير العلمي له في ضوء النظريات العلمية التي اهتمت بهذه الظاهرة، ومن تحديده لعوامل العنف في المجتمع العراقي وذلك بتحليله للبنية الإجتماعية للمجتمع وفقاً لمستوى المؤسسات الإجتماعية، وفيه عرض للمؤسسة السياسية والدينية والإقتصادية والعسكرية موضحاً طبيعة العلاقات بين هذه المؤسسات ووظائفها ومن ثم علاقة كل منها بالبناء الإجتماعي مبيناً دور كل منها في تذليل أو تدعيم العنف في المجتمع العراقي.
فضلاً عن دور المعطيات الوافدة من النظام العالمي الجديد في توفير المناخ الملائم للعنف ومنها الإحتلال الأمريكي للعراق والدور السلبي لوسائل الإتصال الجماهيري.
