هذا كتابٌ جمعتُ فيه النِّسَب التي ذكرها الزركلي في كتابه الأعلام، ورتبتُها على حروف المعجم، مع التعليق على بعضها بزيادةِ توضيح، أو تنبيهٍ على وهمٍ وقع فيها، فجاء هذا الكتاب محتوياً على 618 نسبةً شرَحَها الزركلي، غيرَ مدَّعٍ إستيفاءَ جميع ما في كتابه من النِّسَب المشروحة.
هذا وإنّ وجود هذه النِّسَب في صعيدٍ واحدٍ يوفّر لطالب العلم سرعة الإطلاع عليها في وقتٍ يسير، بدَلَ تتُّبعها في مواضعها المنثورة، ومن المفيد لطالب العلم أيضاً أنها نِسَبٌ لأعلام متباينين في العصور والثقافة والبلدان والمذاهب، وفي هذا من توسيع الثقافة والإطلاع ما لا يخفى.
ومما يجدر التنبيه عليه أنّ النِّسَبَ المشروحة هنا تجري بالأصالة على مَن ذُكرتْ في ترجمته من الأعلام، ولا تتعدّاه بالضرورة إلى غيره ممن يوافقه في ظاهر النسبة، فقد تتفق النِّسبة لعلَمَين ويكون سببُها مختلفاً عندهما، وهو من باب المتفق والمفترق عند المحدِّثين.
