كلود ليفي شتراوس (بالفرنسية: Claude Lévi-Strauss)؛ (28 نوفمبر 1908 - 30 أكتوبر 2009)، عالم اجتماع فرنسي. بدأ ليفي شتراوس تكوينه بدراسة الفلسفة غير أن هذه النظريات المجردة الاعتباطية البعيدة عن الواقع الاجتماعي ما لبثت أن خيبت آماله, فسافر إلى البرازيل حيث درّس علم الاجتماع واكتشف أعمال علماء الإنسان الأميركيين (غير المعروفة في أوروبا آنذاك) مثل بواس وكروبر ولووي . وبعد عودته إلى فرنسا سنة 1948 قدّم أطروحتة المتعلقة بالمشاكل النظرية للقرابة . انتخب أستاذًا في كوليج دو فرانس سنة 1959 وشغل كرسي الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية الذي كان ل مارسيل موس من قبله. فكان لأعمال ليفي شتراوس وعلمه أكبر الأثر في مجال علم الإنسان والتحقيق الإثنولوجي الميداني.

يحتل مفهوم الأسطورة مركز الصدارة في هذا الكتاب الصغير كما هو الحال في أغلب أعمال ليفي شتراوس إن لم يكن كلها، فيحاول ليفي شتراوس أن يحدد علاقة الأسطورة بالعلم، وعلاقتها بالتاريخ، وعلاقتها بالموسيقى واللغة، وموقعها في سياق النسق الكلي للفكر الإنساني. لقد كان لهذا المفهوم وما زال سحره الخاص وجاذبيته في أعمال ليفي شتراوس خاصة في الإنثروبولوجيا البنيوية و"الفكر البري" و"الطوطمية" و"الأسطوريات" وغيرها. لذلك اقتضى الموضوع من الباحث أن يقف وقفة خاصة عند هذا المفهوم والمفاهيم المرتبطة به بنيوية ليفي-شتراوس الأنثروبولوجية.
