مصادر دراسة الشعر الفلسطيني قبل النكبة وبعدها قليلة ومشتتة وكثير منها ضائع. ومن هنا تكمن الصعوبة في دراسة هذا الشعر. وإذا استثنينا المصادر السياسية –وهي كثيرة- لا نجد عن هذا الشعر ما يبل غليلاً، و‘ن وجد، فمقالات ومراجعات مبثوثة في الصحف والمجلات، ومع هذا فما كتب عن الشعر داخل الأرض المحتلة كثير نسبياً، ولكن الفائدة منه –لأمور كثيرة- قليلة، عدا بعض الكتابات ككتابات غسان كنفاني ويوسف الخطيب مثلاً..
وفي هذه الدراسة يحاول المؤلف ربط الظاهرة الشعرية بواقعها، وتبيان مدى تعبيرها عنه. بعبارة أخرى هي تحاول الإجابة على السؤال التالي: "هل استطاع الشعر أن يكشف عن حركة الواقع الفلسطيني؟".
