في هذا الكتاب رسالة تتحدث عن ابن القيم الجوزي "من خلال كتبه وآثاره العلمية. في الباب الأول تم التحدث عن حياة ابن القيم اسمه لقبه مولده تلقيه للعلوم وتعلمه في الجامع الأموي وفاته. كما وتم التطرق لأحوال العصر الذي عاش فيه والذي توالى على حكم المنطقة خلالها أربعة عشر سلطاناً في سلاطين المماليك.
أما الباب الثاني فقد خصص للتحدث عن حياة ابن القيم العلمية ومنهجه في كسب المعرفة، وبالتالي تم التطرق لثقافة العصر، والكتب التي راجت فيه كما وتم التحدث فيه عن إمام المذهب الحنبلي والقضايا الفكرية أو الدينية التي شغلت الناس في تلك الفترة، وعن المتصوف أبو إسماعيل الأنصاري الهروي وعن كتابه "مناول السائرين" وعن شرح ابن القيم لهذا الكتاب. أما العالم الثالث الذي تم التحدث عنه هنا في هذا الباب فهو ابن تيمية، الذي تلقى عنه ابن القيم وأفاد منه وتأثر به بشكل ملحوظ.
وفي الباب الثالث تم التوقف عند تراث ابن القيم الفكري مؤلفاته في الأخلاق وعلم الكلام والعقيدة والفقه والتصوف والشعر، كما وتم التحدث عن أسلوب ابن القيم ككاتب وأخلاقه كعالم مصلح. أما الباب الرابع والذي جاء تحت عنوان "اللغة والشريعة في دراسات ابن القيم فتم تناول بعض قضايا اللغة كالترادف أو اشتراك اللفظ في معنيين مع التطبيق على نصوص الشرع كما هو الشأن في أحكام عدة المطلقة فللشرع لغة الامتناع باليمين وعرفاً الامتناع باليمين من وطء الزوجة.
وفي الباب الخامس والأخير "ابن القيم والتفسير" فقد تم التعرض لأوجه الشبه أو اختلاف النظر بينه وبين بعض المفسرين من أمثال محمد عبه وابن كثير ومن الملحوظ أن ابن القيم قد طلع على تفاسير لمفسرين غير معروفين ولكن لتفاسيرهم قيمة في الفكر الإسلامي وهدفه من هذا هو استنهاض هم الباحثين إلى نشر تراثهم وتحقيقه من هذه الكتب نذكر كتفسير أبي بكر أحمد بن موسى بن مردوية، ومنذر بن سعيد.
