"إلياس الديري، قصاص الخيبة"، هو أول بحث أكاديمي، يتناول الروائي والأديب والصحافي اللبناني إلياس الديري، فيعرض لمختلف مراحل حياته الشخصية بعامّة والأدبية والروائية منها بخاصة، بشتى من التفصيل والتحليل. ويؤرشف لمختلف أحاديثه وكتاباته ونتاجاته القصصية والأدبية ويحللها جميعاً، فيظهر الديري من خلالها على حقيقته، فيلسوف الخيبة، نتيجة تجارب له في الحياة مريرة وتداعيات تعتمل في ذاته التائهة ليلامس حدود "فلسفة الخيبة" تلك!!...
تبدأ تلك التداعيات والمفارقات الغريبة منذ سني الصغر الأولى وتمضي تلاحق الديري طيلة حياته كالظل، فالديري يبدو غريباً في كل المدائن في بيروت إلى الكويت إلى باريس، تسكنه الغربة، وللوهلة الأولى يتألف البطل-الكاتب مع ذئب "العرتوق" ويتنكر لانتمائه الإنساني، والوجودي!! حتى السياسة التي عاش من أجلها وكتب، يطلقها إلى الأبد ويشفق على ربع قرن من عمره هدره بالصحافة السياسية.
لماذا خيبة البطل-الكاتب؟! سؤال كبير يحتاج إلى اكثر من مجلّد، وحول هذا السؤال يتمحور البحث الذي بين أيدينا محاولاً الإجابة من خلال عرض موثق ومدروس لأفكار الديري وآثاره وتحليلها وتناول ما كُتب حولها من آراء مخالفة أو موافقة ومؤيدة. ويبقى المهم في الديري إن فعل الكتابة كان يلازم فعل الخيبة في حياته ونتاجاته التي تعكس تلك الانكسارات الحادة بكل صدق. هو المندفع نحو غايته والمنكسر في نهاية الشوط، ليعود ويندفع من جديد حيث تنتظره الخيبة وينتظره الانكسار وهولا يملك شيئا سوى هذا الصراخ الصادق الذي يعادل وجوده، وكان هذا الصراخ يقوى ويقوى كلما صقلته تجارب الحياة أكثر، وكلما عاش الخيبة أكثر كان يصرخ في وجه هذا العالم.
