للقاموس الذي بين يدينا والموجه لطلاب المرحلة الإعدادية أهمية خاصة فرضاتها لغته الواضحة وشروحه السهلة المستخدمة لمداخله الألفبائية. وكسائر القواميس يأتي هذا القانون مبيناً على استقصاء دقيق للمفردات المستعملة في المرحلة الإعدادية مع مراعاة للمستوى اللغويين وعدد مرات تداولها في الكتب المدرسية، ولما كان من الضروري إحصاء استعمال الكلمات وتكرارها، فقد اهتم المعجم بانتقاء مداخل القاموس، وذلك للمساعدة في اختيار الكلمات الشائعة لشرح المفردات، كما وركز على الكلمات التي تقع مرة بعد مرة وعلى المداخل المعروفة والمستعملة واليت يحتاجها الطالب.
ومن إحدى أولويات هذا القاموس، هي توفير الشرح للكلمات سواء التي يعرفها مستخدم هذا القاموس أو الكلمات التي يجهلها. وكثر من المفردات تتعدد معانيها واستخداماتها، ولا يمكن إدراك معنى كلمة قبل الإلمام بكامل مجالات معانيها وأحكام القواعد.
المداخل مزودة بمسرد لأهم معاني واستخدامات كل كلمة. والشروح مصحوبة بجمل سياقية كاملة، وتعكس وصفاً واضحاً للمعنى، وبالطبع فإن الأمثلة مأخوذة مباشرة من واقع الدراسات التي قام بها الخبراء بالاشتراك مع كبار المؤلفين اللبنانيين والعرب خلال سنوات. إن هذا القاموس تم اختياره وتقديمه بعناية لكي يمكن الطالب من فهم واستيعاب اللغة العربية واستخدامها بشكل أفضل.
وهكذا يتميز هذا القاموس بالخصائص المفيدة التالية: في القسم الأخير منه تم إضافة ملاحق تشرح للطالب أصول وقواعد الأعداد، وقواعد كتابة الهمزة... أضيف إليه 48 لوحة ملونة تتضمن الألفاظ الأساسية المستخدمة في سلسلة واسعة من الموضوعات الحيوية التي تمس الطالب في حياته اليومية. وجاءت الرسوم التي رسمها كبار الرسامين، بإرشادات محرري ومصممي دائرة المعاجم، متقنة التعبير.
