تتصل حقائق الإيمان المسيحي اتصالاً وثيقاً بيسوع المسيح -بشخصه وتعاليمه وأحداث حياته، أي بهويته وبما قام به في أثناء تبشيره، غير أن تلك الحقائق الإيمانية لا تنحصر في هذه الأطر فقط، بل تتعداها لتمس حياة الإنسان والإنسانية أيضاً. ذلك بأن لها وقعاً على مصير البشرية جمعاء.
كان المسيح معلماً، وتعاليمه تسلمها من الله، تندرج تلك التعاليك في خط تعاليم موسى والأنبياء التي دونت في العهد القديم، ولكنها أتمتها وتجاوزتها لما تنطوي عليه من حقائق جديدة.
وبعد موت المسيح آمن رسله، الذين رافقوه إبان حياته الرسولية، بأن مهمتهم هي الحفاظ على الإيمان الذي تسلموه هم أنفسهم منه، وإعلانه إلى العالم كله، وتسليمه إلى الجيل الناشئ في جماعة المؤمنين، أي الكنيسة.
غير أن تعاليم الرسل ما هي مجرد معلومات يجب حفظها، بل تظهر ترابطاً وتثقاً بين حقائق الإيمان وطريقة حياة معينة. وفي هذا الإطار، علم الرسل أن حقائق الإيمان هي بشرى خلاص تتحقق في حياة الإنسان الذي يقلبها ويبدأ بتغيير قلبه، منشئاً علاقة شخصية بالمسيح. فهذا ما تسلمته الكنيسة وما برحت تنادي به. والهدف من هذه الدروس، هو التوسع في ذلك التعريف المبسط بالإيمان المسيحي.
