"الرياضي في السرير" عنوان مقتطع من نص الليل يحرك (1935)، والدكتورة "ماري إلياس" تستعير هذا الاسم لتطلقه على هذه التوليفة "المونتاج" التي بين يدينا من النصوص، وهي نصوص كتبها "÷نري ميشو بين الأعوام 1922 و1942، في ما يمكن تسميته "أعمال فترة الشباب" هذا الشاعر (1899-1984) الذي ظل يكتب بغزارة حتى مماته.
النصوص اختيرت من الأعمال التالية: من كنت (1927)، أكوادور (1929)، ممتلكاتي (1929)، السيد ريشة أو شخص ما يدعى بلوم (1930)، الليل يحرك (1935)، بلوم وقبلها الجواني السحيق (1938)، ومقاطع (1950).
الموضوعات "التيما" التي يطرحها النص تتعلق بالمرض والاستبطان، والعزلة، والوحدة، والتخفيف من حدة هذه الوحدة، يخلق نص ميشو عالماً متخيلاً، ويستند على إيمان عميق يصل إلى حدّ الحنين بوجود مستقبل سحيق لا نشارك بصنعه، فهو يقول في أحد النصوص: "كم هي جميلة، القرون القادمة، لو تعرفون كم تمنيت أن أكون بينكم".
هذا وقد أعطيت الأولوية في عملية الاختيار للنصوص الناطقة بصيغة المتكلم "الأنا" حتى يكون التوجه للجمهور الأكثر مباشرة، في "هنا الآن" للعرض.
لا تعتبروني ميتاً, لأن الصحف ستعلن رحيلي. سأحاول أن أبدو أكثر تواضعاً مما أنا عليه الآن. وسيكون هذا ضرورياً, أعتمد عليك أنت, أيها القارىء, أنت الذي ستقرؤني يوماً ما, لا تتركني وحيداً مع الأموات, كجندي على الجبهة لم يعد يتسلم رسائل. اخترني من بينهم, اخترني بسبب قلقي الكبير ورغبتي الشديدة. وعندها, كلمني, أرجوك, فأنا أعتمد على ذلك. وكان من أهم ما تناوله الكتاب ما يلي: الرياضي في السرير, السيد ريشة, ريشة في المطعم, ريشة مسافر, في جناح الملكة, ليل البلغار, رؤيا ريشة, ألم في إصبع ريشة, اقتلاع الرؤوس, أم لتسعة أطفال, ريشة في الدار البيضاء, ضيف شرف في نادي برن, ريشة على السقف, ريشة ومقطوعو الأرجل.
