هذا الكتاب هو حصيلة أعمال مؤتمر التنمية المستدامة في البادية الأردنية الفرص والتحديات، والذي نفذه مركز الثريا في البادية الأردنية (الشمالية، الوسطى، الجنوبية) عام 2005 وإنعقد في جامعة آل البيت في الشمال، وجامعة الحسين بن طلال في الجنوب، وجامعة الزيتونة في الوسط، وعقد المؤتمر النهائي في مركز الحسين الثقافي التابع لأمانة عمان الكبرى.
وقد تناول المؤتمر من خلال أوراق العمل التي قدمها مجموعة من الباحثين المختصين من أبناء البادية قضايا التنمية المستدامة في البادية الأردنية والفرص والتحديات التي تواجهها، حيث قدمت أوراق عمل تناولت الخصائص الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والديمقراطية لأبناء البادية الأردنية وقضايا المرأة والشباب في البادية وقضايا البادية في الإعلام والفقر في البادية الأردنية والتنمية السياسية في البادية الأردنية، والبادية الأردنية في الدراسات الغربية.
ويعد هذا الكتاب إضافة نوعية لدراسات المتعلقة في البادية الأردنية خاصة وأن المكتبة الأردنية والعربية لا زالت تفتقر لمثل هذا النوع من الدراسات المتعمقة، كما أن هذا الكتاب يشكل أرضية جيدة لمزيد من الدراسات المتعمقة لقضايا التنمية في البادية الأردنية، كما أن هذا الكتاب يعد مدخلاً مهماً للباحثين والمؤسسات التي تعمل في مجالات التنمية المستدامة في البادية الأردنية لأنه يشكل أضاءات مهمة يمكن الإستفادة منها.
