تاريخُ الأُممِ هو مِرآتُها التي يَتجلَّى فيها وجْهُ حضارتِها, ومسلسلُ انتصاراتِها وهزائِمِها, وتُتيحُ لنا تلمُّسَ دروبِ الصعودِ ومُحفِّزاتِه, والهبوطِ ومُسبِّباتِه. وفي هذا الكتابِ يُقدِّمُ المؤلِّفانِ تأريخًا جامعًا لمُختلِفِ المراحلِ الزمنيةِ التي مرَّتْ بها أرضُ مصرَ منذُ فجْرِ حضارتِها الفِرعَونيةِ القديمةِ التي تَرجعُ إلى آلافِ الأعوام, وحتى قيامِ الدولةِ العلويةِ التي أسَّسَها ومكَّنَ لها «محمد علي باشا الكبير». وقد اعتمدَا منهجًا وصفيًّا مرتَّبًا زمنيًّا بعنايةٍ أكسبَتِ العرْضَ وضوحًا وسَلاسة, واهتمَّا بإبرازِ محورَيْنِ رئيسَيْن؛ الأولُ هو وضْعُ الأحداثِ المِصريةِ في إطارِها المشرقيِّ ابتداءً ثم العربيِّ الإسلاميِّ بعدَ الفتحِ الذي تمَّ على يدِ القائدِ «عمرو بن العاص», والثاني إيلاءُ الاهتمامِ لذِكرِ أخبارِ الرؤساءِ والحُكَّام, وأبرزِ أعمالِهِم, والحروبِ التي خاضُوها لتدعيمِ مُلْكِهم وصدِّ الأعداء.
