بدأت الحكاية حين حاول لأوّل مرّة المشي... لم يكن أبواه قد تفطّنا إلى عرجه... عرج خفيف تماماً، لم يكن يبدو للعيان حين كان يحبو ويجرّ قدمه اليسرى الممتزجة أصابعها بالتراب.
سقط سقطته الأولى وهو يتحاور بشيء من الحدّة المقرّعة مع طيفه الطفولي بخصوص قطّة رماديّة صغيرة مرّت مسرعة أمامه قبل أن تقفز على الحائط الصغير الأحمر الذي كان يفصل السانية عن المقبرة.
ولم يتمكّن لا هو ولا طيفه من الإمساك بذيلها، في محاولة المشي الثانية، ثنى عامدا أصابع تلك القدم اليسرى، مزجها بتراب الحوش، وتحرّك مترنّحا بإتّجاه أمّه التي كانت في الأثناء تلقم أخاه الرضيع ثديها الأسمر الكبير، ونجحت المحاولة، تهلّلت أسارير الأمّ واستقبلته بين أحضانها فلامس الثدي الأسمر الكبير، بعد أكثر من سنة من الحرمان منه، وأحسّ على وجنته سخونة الحليب المتدفّق في جوف الرضيع السمين الأبيض الكريه.
كان ذاك تحيّله الأكبر والأكثر نجاحاً: لم تتفطّن الأمّ، ولا الأب في ما بعد، إلى كونه أعرج، ربّما لم يكونا مهتمَّين للأمر أصلاً، وذاك ما جعله يمضي فيه حتّى حدوده القصوى.
