أصل هذا الكتاب (مقال) للأستاذ عبد القادر حقي الحفار من ضمن سلسلة مقالات نشرت في مجلة الرابطة الإسلامية سنة (1352ه). وجاء بعنوان "الحركة الأدبية في الشرق".
وفي هذا الكتاب / المقال يجول المؤلف على عصور اللغة العربية وآدابها، ويوضح من خلالها مزايا كل عصر، وأولها: 1- مزايا العصر الجاهلي (الشعر والخطابة) عند امرؤ القيس، النابغة الذبياني، عنترة العبسي وآخرون، 2- عصر صدر الإسلام، ويتضمن نظرة على حكم بني أمية، وأثر الإسلام في حياة العرب وأخلاقهم وطباعهم، وهنا تبرز (اللغة) التي اتسعت مادتها وتشعبت أغراضها بالتعبير عن عقائد الدين، ومقتضيات الحضارة، 3- دولة بني أمية في الشام، ومعالم من نهضة أدبية عربية في الخطابة والكتابة والترسل والشعر والإنشاء وغيره من فنون الأدب، 4- الدولة العباسية في العراق، وعدها المؤلف "عصر الإسلام الذهبي" حيث زهت الآداب العربية، ونقلت العلوم المختلفة إلى لغة الضاد، 5- عصر المماليك وهو عصر الفتن والثورات وغارات التتر من الشرق، وغارات الروم الصيبيين من الغرب، 6- المغول أو التتر، "أسلموا وشرعوا يخدمون الإسلام بتقريب العلماء والأدباء والإحسان إليهم، وترغيبهم بالتأليف والتصنيف". 7- اللغة العربية وآدابها وهو عصر سيطرة العثمانيين وتقهقر اللغة العربية وآدابها في مقابل نهضة اللغة التركية التي أصبحت اللغة الرسمية في كل شيء (التدريس، والمحاكم، والأعمال الحكومية، والدواوين ..." . وأخيراً (العصر الحديث) والذي أصبحت فيه مصر محط رجال قادة النهضة الأدبية، والحركة الفكرية ... وحديث عن عصر أحمد شوقي وحافظ بك إبراهيم وإسهاماتهما الشعرية في الساحة الأدبية.
