(القول الفصل في رد العامي إلى الأصل) هكذا أطلق الأمير شكيب أرسلان على دراسة في اللغة كان يعدَها بخط يده كي يخرجها إلى العالم مؤلفاً جامعاً في الأصول الفصيحة للألفاظ العامية. هذا الكتاب هو أصل لمخطوطة من محفوظات الأستاذ "أمين خضر" الذي كانت تربطه بالأمير صداقة موروثة. وهو عبارة عن مخطوطة في منتهى الأهمية للغويين والدارسين والباحثين في أصول الكلام، وقد تطوع الأستاذ محمد الباشا بعد إطلاعه على المسودة إللا ترتيب ألفاظها وإصدارها بأمانة وإخلاص كبيرين.
وفي الكتاب؛ قدم الأستاذ محمد الباشا دراسة مستفيضة في اللغة المحكية متناولاً هذا الموضوع من أوجهه المختلفة، وفيه أظهر ما للغة العاميَة من تأثير في تطور اللغة الفصحى..
وفي الكتاب أيضاً، شذرات لغوية، وفيه منتخبات من أقوال البلغاء، وفيه تناول الأمير اللغة العامية بالبحث وسلك مجاهل الألفاظ العامية وعمل على بيان أصلها الفصيح، فحاول أن يقرب بين الإثنين فرفع من العاميَ دون أن ينتقص من الفصيح. وقد ظهر هذا جلياً في أسلوب كتابته الذي نجده في كل ما نقرأ له. ولذا كان أميراً للبيان.
هذا وقد قسم الكتاب –الذي بين أيدينا- إلى ثلاثة أبواب بحسب مواضعها، وبحسب الترتيب الألفبائي، يرافق ذلك شرحاً للألفاظ، والتعليق عليها بعناية واهتمام بالغين...
