تدور هذه الأطروحة حول إستكشاف الأسس في ممارسة النقد في الحضارة الإسلامية ومدى تأثير ذلك في ثقافة المسلم قديماً وحديثاً وتقتصر على دراسة ذلك خلال القرون الخمسة من الهجرة ولا تتجاوزها إلاّ عند الضرورة، ويمكن القول أن هذه الأطروحة تدرس الأسس المنهجية عند المتقدمين من المحدثين النقاد كما اصطلح عليهم وإن اختلف في نهاية عصرهم وبداية عصر المتأخرين، أن مشكلة البحث تدور حول استكشاف هذه الأسس ومناهجها ومن ثم نقدها أو معرفة مدى مطابقتها للإتجاهات العلمية المعرفية والموضوعية وفق المناهج المعاصرة، وعملية النقد تحتاج إلى جرأة في تخطي حالة الركود والجمود إلى حالة التجديد والإبداع لدراسة هذا التراث دراسة واعية وكلية والإبتعاد عن القراءات المتجزءة التي تؤدي إلى نتائج غير متكاملة وناقصة معرفياً.
