كان الفلسطيني "بسام أبو شريف"، قائداً ومناضلاً بارزاً ضدّ الإحتلال الإسرائيلي، حتى لقّبته وسائل الإعلام الغربية بـ"الوجه المعلن للإرهاب"، أرسل إليه "الموساد" طرداً بريدياً احتوى على قنبلة شوّهته لكنها لم تقتله، بل أصبح الناطق الرسمي بإسم منظّمة التحرير الفلسطينية.
أما الإسرائيلي عوزي محنايمي، فقد تبوّأ مركزاً هاماً في إستخبارات الجيش الإسرائيلي، ويصف هنا كيف شهد على حرب صامتة وسامّة تخاض عبر الشرق الأوسط، وتتمدّد إلى شوارع لندن عام 1987، ما دفع مارغريت ثاتشر آنذاك إلى منع "الموساد" في بريطانيا، ثم استقال محنايمي من مهماته في الجيش ليتحوّل إلى صحافي في واحدة من أبرز الصحف الإسرائيلية، فدأب على وضع تصريحات منظّمة التحرير على الصفحة الأولى.
التقى الرجلان في لندن عام 1988، بعد سنوات عديدة على إنسحاب كل منهما من دائرة العنف لأسباب متباينة، خلال ذلك اللقاء الغريب، ولد "أفضل الأعداء".
أثار هذا الكتاب، بنسخته الإنكليزية، ضجّة كبيرة، وكان أحد أفضل الكتب مبيعاً في الولايات المتحدة، ترجم إلى لغات عدة ونُشر في 15 دولة...
