يشكل هذا الكتاب دراسات في فلسفة غاستون باشلار، وهي مقاربة، تعمل على تفكيك الأسس النظرية والمفهومية لمشروع باشلار النقدي من خلال متابعة الأعمال التي أنجزها، حيث أعاد باشلار النظر في مجموعة من المقولات، كما لفت النظر إلى أخرى. وأسس على مستوى مجالات البحث طرائق أخرى في التفكير. وبالفعل، شكلت المقاربة الباشلارية مسوغاً نظرياً ومنهجياً لنحت أدوات مفهومية مكَّنت صيرورة العلم من إيجاد انفتاحات جديدة.
يعتبر مؤلف الكتاب أن القيمة المعرفية لفكر باشلار، تتمثل في قدرته الفائقة على جعله من الخيال التجربة القادرة على إيجاد المبررات الأخلاقية والفلسفية قصد تحويل الواقع الى علَّة للفعل الجمالي وهذه مسألة تتوخى ما يلي: 1- صياغة الوجود في قوالب جمالية بالعلم أو الشعر. 2- القدرة على تحويل الأشياء والمكونات الكوسمولوجية للعالم إلى هرمونات للخيال. ولترجمة هذه المسائل سيتجه غاستون باشلار الى تأمل مجموعة من المكونات الفنية لنصوص نثرية وكتابات شعرية حتى يقف عند معطياتها الجمالية الذاتية. وهكذا سنجد على امتداد كتابات باشلار التي يثيرها المؤلف في هذا الكتاب متناً نظرياً يبتدئ من القرن الثامن عشر إلى القرن العشرين. وذلك للإجابة على سؤال رئيسي حكم مشروع باشلار النقدي. والسؤال هو: كيف يشتغل الخيال الإنساني وينتج صوراً فنية في علاقته بالعناصر الكونية الأربعة: الأرض، الهواء، والماء والنار؟ فإطلاع باشلار على نماذج أساسية لمجموعة من الصور التي انطوت عليها نصوص مبدعين كبار أمثال: بودلير وإدغار آلان بو ومالارميه وهيغو… ثم رامبو، مكَّنه من تبين الخصائص الانطولوجية، والاختلافات المعرفية بين الصور التي ينتجها الخيال الانساني حيال كل عنصر من العناصر الأربعة، لهذا سنعثر في هذا الكتاب على أنواع مختلفة من الخيال الباشلاري الذي هو أطروحة أساسية في فكر غاستون باشلار.
أما محتويات الكتاب فجاءت على الشكل التالي: الفصل الأول: مقاربة نظرية باشلارية، الفصل الثاني: ترجمات باشلارية، الفصل الثالث: قراءة باشلارية، الفصل الرابع: حوارات باشلارية. وأخيراً: محاورة إيونيل بوز، رئيس مركز "مرسيا إلياد".
