"التوراة جاءت من جزيرة العرب"، عنوان الكتاب الذي صدر للدكتور كمال سليمان الصليبي مترجماً عن الإنكليزية التي طبع بها أولاً. العنوان كان كافياً أن يثير الزوبعة. فقبل نشر الكتاب عربياً وصدور طبعاته المتلاحقة بلغات عالمية عدة تناقلت الصحف العالمية والعربية بعض مضمونه، وتتابعت الردود وردات الفعل.
بناء عليه، فإن هذا البحث يتناول توجهين: الأول: إكتشاف د. كمال الصليبي وموقف المؤرخين العرب من ذلك، والقرابة اللغوية، والوثنيات المشتركة بين التوراة وبعض ما ساد الجزيرة قبل الإسلام. الثاني: التوراة والثقافة الشعبية، ما هي العادات والتقاليد والطقوس المقننة في التوراة، والتي سادت قبل الإسلام وبعده وحتى الآن. وكذلك مقارنة بين أسماء الأماكن والأفراد الواردة في التوراة مع القاموس العربي، ووجدانية الثقافة الشعبية عبر تكرار استخدام أرقام، الثلاثة، السبعة، الأربعين، في الملاحم والأساطير والنصوص (الكتب الدينية) والثقافة الشعبية الحاضرة دائماً.
ويعتبر المؤلف أن هذا الكتاب ليس نقداً مضاداً لأطروحات كمال الصليبي، وإنما تدعيماً لها، وإعلاناً عن أهمية دراسة الثقافة الشعبية وأثرها، وهي الأقرب في الصحة إلى النقش الحجري. وكانت بعض أبحاث هذا الكتاب قد نشرت في مجلتي "بيروت المساء" و"الفكر العربي".
