الجالية العراقية في المهجر تجمعها سمات ومشتركات كثيرة، ولكن وجودها ودورها يتباين من مهجر لآخر وفقا لطبيعة النظام السياسي والقوانين في ذلك البلد، ومواقف الأحزاب السياسية، وطبيعة المجتمع ومدى تقبله للأجانب والآخر المختلف. وبحكم تواجدنا في بريطانيا، قمنا بدراسة ميدانية عن المهاجرين العراقيين في مدينة لندن، نعتقد بأنها ممكن أن تكون نموذج قابل للتعميم، لأن لندن من المدن المهمة التي تقيم فيها جالية عراقية تمثل الطيف العراقي، هذه الدراسة محاولة لتوضيح الجذور التاريخية للجالية العراقية في بريطانيا باعتبارها جزءًا من تركيبة التعددية في بريطانيا. فقد ركزت الدراسة على دور الجالية في مدى مساهمتها في تطوير الفعاليات الثقافية المشتركة مع السلطات المحلية البريطانية، وفي تحقيق بعض برامج الإندماج الاجتماعي. والدراسة غطت أكثر الجوانب الحيوية في حياة الجالية، وتمكنا من رصد الكثير من الحالات الايجابية والسلبية، ومعرفة مدى التوافق والاختلاف، وبالتالي فهم درجة التأقلم والاندماج التي تعتبر مؤشرًا مهما على مدى تفاعل أفراد الجالية بهذا المجتمع متعدد الثقافات.
