إن موضوع هذا الكتاب هو البحث في دلالة "الرائع" (Le sublime) في الجماليات المعاصرة من كانط إلى دريدا، وقد جاء هذا الكتاب في أربعة فصول تناولت موضوع البحث بشكل مفصل.
وقد توزعت هذه الفصول وفق ما يلي: الفصل الأول: "كانط ومولد "إجماليات الرائع" أو الرائع والحرية، الفصل الثاني: "نيتشه وتراجيديا الرائع أو عودة ديونيزوس"، الفصل الثالث: "أدورنو وجماليات القبح أو في المنعرج السياسي للرائع"، الفصل الرابع: "جماليات الرائع النصّي أو دريدا و"الباررغون" الكانطي.
تتساءل أستاذة الفلسفة الدكتورة أم الزين بنشيخة المسكيني عن ماذا بوسعنا إزاء أهوال المريع؟ وما العمل حينما يخرج الرائع عن طوره؟ وأيُّ شيء بوسع الفكر إزاء عصر يسقط من روعة العظمة، في كل معاني العبقرية والإبداع البشري، إلى مريع الروع والكارثة الكبرى؟ عبر كتابها "الفن يخرج عن طوره" تخوض في موضوع الفلسفة، حيث تقول المؤلفة: إننا نشهد منذ قرن من الزمن على تدفق الرائع والمريع علينا من كل حدب وصوب. وهو ما عبّر عن نفسه من خلال عدة اصطلاحات مثيرة: الرائع التكنولوجي والمريع النووي والرائع الفنّي والمريع السياسي والرائع الثوري والمريع الأصولي... وقد طفق ينشر الروعة والترويع والفتنة والقساوة بشكل غير قابل للتمثيل وللخيال البشري أصلًا.واصلة إلى: لا شيء يسعفنا غير إعادة زرع الرائع في النسيج الحميم لمصير البشر.
