تحمل قراءة متون الرحلة العربية إلى أوروبا، في القرون الثلاثة الأخيرة، المرء على التنقل في رحلة أخرى، رحلة في طبيعة مغايرة، هي تلك التي يقطعها الوعي بالذات، أو تقطعها الذات في لحظات وعيها بذاتها، وفي هذه الدراسة الشائقة يبرهن الباحث على أن الانتقال في مطالعة المتون المغربية، ابتداءً من رحلة "البدر السافر" و"الإكسير" إلى "إتحاف الأخيار" مروراً بنصوص رحلات كل من الصفار، والعمراوي، والطاهر الفاسي، وانتهاءً بالحجوي في "الرحلة الأوروبية"، انتقال يؤكد لنا وجود الارتباط العلي المباشر بين حصول الوعي بالذات وكيفية تجلية أو ظهوره، وبين إدراك الآخر: ذاك الذي تقضي الذات بمغايرته لها واختلافه عنها.
دراسة تركز على صورة الآخر من متون الرحلة المغربية، من خلال جنس أدبي يتسم بالطرافة منى ما قورن بالأجناس الأدبية الأخرى، ويمتاز بجمعه بين ألإفادة والإمتاع، وقارئ الرحلة، كما تذهب هذه الدراسة، لا يطلع على العالم الذي ينقله إليه المسافر صاحب الرحلة وحسب، بل يتعرف أيضاً على أفكار وتصورات ورؤى عصر من خلال عيني الرحالة.
