يضم هذا الكتاب دراسات تطبيقية في القصة السورية القصيرة، وقف فيها الكاتب عند أربع عشرة مجموعة لأكثر من أربعة عشر قاصاً من أجيال مختلفة، فبعضهم ينتمي إلى سن الشباب وبعضهم إلى سن الكهولة وبعضهم ينتمي إلى سن الشيخوخة. وقد درست لكل منهم مجموعة قصصية واحدة من إنتاجه، دون إغفال لمجمل إنتاجه الآخر. والمجموعات القصصية المدروسة تتراوح تواريخ صدورها ما بين عامي 1989 و2001. ويتخلل الدراسة وقفتان عند مجموعتين، جماعتي التأليف هما: جنوب القصة السورية وتضم عشرين قصة لعشرة قاصين من محافظة درعا وبروق وتضم مئة قصة قصيرة لعشرين قاصاً سورياً. أما عدد القصص التي درست في المجموعات كلها فيربو على 350 قصة ما بين قصة قصيرة عادية وقصة قصيرة جداً.
ولد في خبب بمحافظة درعا 1949 ،مدرس بجامعة دمشق ،ناقد أدبي وباحث في التراث العربي .
