يشتمل هذا الكتاب على ترجمة لكتاب الدكتور "محمد علي العيني" والذي جاء تحت عنوان عبد القادر الجيلاني شيخ كبي رمن صلحاء الإسلام 470-561/1077-1166، وهم يشمل على قسمين الأول ترجمة وافية للشيخ عبد القادر بدءاً من أرومته، ومواطن تقلب أجداده، ومسقط رأسه، ونشأته العلمية وسلوكه الصوفي، إلى أن حل ببغداد وتصدر للمشيخة فيها دهراً طويلاً، وتاريخ بناء ضريحه والأطوار الصعبة التي مر بها قبل أن يصبح على ما هو عليه اليوم من الفخامة، ويضم القسم الثاني نصوصاً مختارة من كلام الشيخ عبد القادر –نثراً ونظماً- في العقيدة والإيمان والتوبة والأمر بالمعروف والنهي عن المنكر، ومجالسه الوعظية، ووصاياه وأجوبته عن بعض المصطلحات الصوفية كالرؤية والتجريد، والمحبة، والمعرفة والذكر والشوق الخ. وإذا كان المؤلف يميل في الغالب إلى الاعتدال ويحاول "عقلنة" ما يتحدث عنه من خوارق عادات الشيخ وكراماته، فإنه -باعتباره مريداً قادرياً متفانياً في محبة الشيخ- يثبت أحياناً نصوصاً مثيرة منسوبة إليه دون أن يرى في ذلك غضاضة.
