بيت سيرة فريد الأطرش الذاتية التي استهوت العديد من الكتاب والتحليل التقني الموسيقي الذي غاب عن معظم النقاد الفنيين، إختارت الكاتبة البحث العلمي لتراث فنان لا يشبه أي من تراث الفنانين العرب لغزارة مشاربه ولا أي من الموسيقيين العالميين لتشعب أوجهه، لذلك كانت مقاربتها مختلفة والعنوان التي اختارته معبّراً، لنتركها تتساءل وتجيب نفسها: "من هو حبيب العمر بالنسبة لفريد الأطرش؟ هل هو جمهوره؟ هل هو فنّه؟ هل هو وطنه المتعددة الأقطار والوجهات؟ هل هو عوده أو المرأة التي نسج معها حكايات سمت إلى المثالية والخلود".
"حبيب العمر هو الحلم السائل الذي ينزلق بين الأصابع المتحركة على الأوتار بعد أن يطرّيها بنفحة الإلهام تنسج الأنغام بين الأقطار العربية ومنها إلى العاملين الشرقي والغربي فيترجم الحلم إلى نغم يدخل القلوب فيتوقف العقل عن التحليل".
لنسمعه يقول: "أبي من جبل الدروز وأمي من جبل لبنان وأنا مصري"... وُلد في سوريا وعاش في مصر وجاب أوروبا وأميركا ومات في لبنان، ورغم هذا التعدد في التكوين، ترى الكاتبة أنه "صهر التراث مع الظروف، والموروث مع المكتسب، والموهبة مع الصقل، والمؤهلات مع الإجتهاد، والإبتكار مع العلم والمثابرة، وسخّر الإنفتاح البيئي في القاهرة ليحوله إلى مدرسة موسيقية مقوماتها الإنسان بمشاعره وأحلامه وتنوع مشاربه، ومميزاتها التعبير بمختلف ألوانه تحت عباءة الشرق الذي ينتمي إليه، وبإستعماله كل الإيقاعات الممكنة إتّسم تراثه بالعالمية التي بالرغم من تنوع مشاربها كان لها لون واحد وفريد ميّزها عن كل ما عداها، وأعطاها طعمها الخاص".
