أجل أيتها الطواحين !! قد كنت مثلي معدة للبقاء على الوعد. فإذا بك خنتني، وإذا بي خنتك. لقد أروني إياك يا طواحين الهواء، طلباً لقتلي، لأنه لاقبل لي بالاستعاضة عنك، فمنك كانت بطولاتي، ولأجلك كانت فروسيتي وخيباتي. إنني يا طواحين الهواء لأعجب من جروحي، ومن ارادتي التي لا أجرؤ على دفنها، هي التي هدمت مقابري وجلست على ركامها تنتظر بعثي لأنه من العبث حيث تكون القبور. ثم تذكر الفارس الحزين الطلعة أن في تساقط الانغام من الوتر، شهادة على قوة الوتر، ولما هتكت القوة شغاف القلب منه صار مرآة ليس لها قفا إذ ذاك صار أماماً لا وراء له. ولما انتهى دون كيشوت من كلامه ليغرق في تأملاته، قال المجنون لسيده: هكذا تكلم زرادشت.
