بين 11 أيلول (سبتمبر) 2001 و9 نيسان (إبريل) 2003 مرّ العالم بتطورات دراماتيكية، كان العرب أناساً وأنظمة وثقافةً محوراً فيها، سواء لعبوا دوراً فاعلاً في أحداثها أو تلقوا نتائجها بسلبية وجمود. وبين هذين التاريخين سقط آلاف القتلى في الدولة العظمى الوحيدة التي تكرست إمبراطورية بعد سقوط جدار برلين، واحتل بلدان وتغيرت الخريطة السياسية في الشرق الأوسط.
بين هذين التاريخين عاش العالم على أعصابه مرات، إرهابيو "القاعدة" أقضوا مضاجع دول غربية وحكومات عربية عدة. ومتطرفو الإدارة الأميركية في عهد جورج بوش الابن لم يقصروا في الرد.
رحل نظام المقابر الجماعية في العراق لكن العراق يجرب الاحتلال في القرن الواحد والعشرين. تحررت كابول من ظلام الظلاميين وانسحب بن لادن. لكن خلاياه النائمة تستفيق في الرياض وفي المغرب وفي إندونيسيا وفي الغرب. العرب متهمون، أشخاصاً وأنظمة سياسية وثقافة. أما ردودهم على التحديات فأصغر من حجم المخاطر وأقل من واجب إعمال العقل واستعادة المبادرة.
بين هذين التاريخين كتبت هذه المقالات، فعالجت ما استجد في السياسة وردود فعل العالم العربي. أما المغري في النشر فهو جمعها تحت عنوان الإرهاب والديكتاتورية وتسجيل شهادات متلاحقة في سياق واحد وفي فترة زمنية محددة. صحيح أن للمقالة الصحافية وقعاً خاصاً في لحظة الحدث. لكنها تبقى شاهداً ودليلاً حين تستمد قيمتها من الموقف ومن الموضوع، وهي كانت ضد الإرهاب وثقافته في وقت حظي الاستبداديون بمواقع راسخة في الصحافة والثقافة والسلطة ولدى النخب العربية والشارع على السواء.
