يحتل دير البلمند مكانة هامة في الأوساط الأرثوذكسية في الكرسي الأنطاكي بسبب مؤسساته كثانوية دير البلمند ومعهد القديس يوحنا الدمشقي وجامعة البلمند. وبسبب زيارة غبطة البطريك أغناطيوس الرابع هزيم له وإقامته فيه. وبالنظر لما يتمتع به هذا الدير من أهمية ومكانة بين مختلف الأديرة الأخرى فقد اعتنى "أثناسيوس صليبا" بالتحدث عنه في هذا الكتاب وبشرح ما يقوم به رئيسه من نشاطات داخل الدير تتعلق ببنائه وأرضه، وخارج الدير من علاقات روحية وتربوية واجتماعية واقتصادية مع المؤسسات البلمندية وعلى الخدمات التي يقدمها الدير لمحيطه. كما ويتحدث المؤلف عن تطلعات رئيس الدير إلى مستقبل الدير والدور الذي يمكن أن يقوم به بالنسبة إلى مؤسساته ومحيطه بصورة خاصة وإلى الطائفة الأرثوذكسية بصورة عامة. كما ويتحدث في الكتاب عن العلاقات التي تربط بين رئيس الدير وبين غبطة البطريك وعن الخلاف الذي نشأ بينهما وتطوره وأسبابه وإقالة الرئيس من رئاسة دير سيدة البلمند مرتين.
