وهذه الكوارث والآيات تستوجب من العبد أنَّ يستعظمها ويشكر خالقه على أنه لم يصب بآثارها المباشرة على الأقل، أو يطلب منه تعالى أن يدرأها عنه، ويُظهر العبد الخشوع والإطاعة لله رب العالمين، وإنَّ فرض الصلاة والدعاء في مثل هذه الحالات لا شك يدرأ عن الإنسان كشخص أو مجتمع أو بيئة ما يحتمل أنْ يعيبه، والإنسان يعلم ما هو صالح له وما هو ليس كذلك، فقد ورد عن الإمام الرضا (ع): "إنما جُعلت للكسوف صلاة لأنه من آيات الله، لا يُدرى ألرحمة ظهَرْت أم العذاب؟ فأحبَّ النبي (ص) ان تفرغ أمته إلى خالقها وراحمها عند ذلك ليُصرف عنهم شرّها ويقيهم مكروهها، كما صرف عن قوم يونس (ع) حين تضرعوا إلى الله عزّ وجلّ" [الوسائل 7/ 483].
