إريش ماريا ريمارك مواليد (22 يونيو 1898 - 25 سبتمبر 1970) وهو مؤلف ألماني ، اشتهر بفضل روايته كل شئ هادئ في الميدان الغربى الصادرة عام 1929 .
هاجر الى امريكا واكتسب الجنسية الامريكية .
من اعماله الاخرى (( وقت للحب ، وقت للحرب )) ، (( ثلاثة رفاق )) ، ((ليلة لشبونة )) ، (( السماء لا تحابي احداً)) .
يمتاز اسلوبه بالسلاسة والحيادية ولايجر القاريء الى التعقيد وروايته تمتاز بالجذب المتواصل عبر احداثها .
وهو واحد من افضل الكتاب الذين فضحوا قذارة الحروب .

ليلة لشبونة تلخص - بكثافة إنسانية - الإيقاع المأساوي الذي تركته النازية على حياة الناس... رواية تدور في ليلة واحدة، لكن الأحداث تمتد لتروي حكايات المهاجرين الألمان الهاربين من القبضة الفاشية يعود ريمارك في هذه الرواية لتناول موضوع قدره المشؤوم.
فهذا الكتاب هو أكثر كتب ريمارك تأثيراً في النفس الإنسانية، وذلك بحكم قربه من الواقع... رواية متميزة تسرد - على الرغم من غرابة ظروفها - قصة حب كبير يربط بين شخصين ويدفعهما إلى مقاومة الموت وإعادة إكتشاف الحياة.
وُلد إريش ماريا ريمارك عام 1898 في مدينة أوسنابروك في ألمانيا تطوع عام 1916 في الجيش، حيث شارك في الحرب العالمية الأولى نشر عام 1929 رواية الأولى (لا جديد في الجبهة الغربية)، التي كرسته كواحد من أكثر كتاب ألمانيا شهرة، وفي عام 1933 أحرق النازيون كتبه بتهمة أنها تمثل خيانة أدبية بحق الجندي الألماني.
بالإضافة إلى (ليلة لشبونة) 1962، (ولا جديد في الجبهة الغربية) نشر ريمارك (طريق العودة) عام 1939 و(قوس النصر) 1946 و(شرارة الحياة) 1952 و(وقت للحياة ووقت للموت) 1952 و(ثلاثة رفاق).
