"جيلبير دولاندشير"، يمثل في بلده بلجيكا وفي العالم الغربي سلطة علمية في ميدان التربية، فهو أستاذ في جامعة لييج، وباحث أجرى العديد من البحوث القيمة في الميادين المتنوعة للتربية، ومؤلف غزير الإنتاج نشر عدداً من الكتب التي تتناول البحث التربوي منها هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا والذي يرى من خلاله إلى إذكاء الروح العلمية في نفوس الطلاب وتعريفهم بالمناهج المستخدمة في حل المشكلات، وأسلوب البحث العلمي بشكل عام وإطلاعهم على تعقيد ظاهرات العلوم السلوكية، أو الصعوبات التي يفترض الباحثين، وأهمية التدرب على البحوث وتطويرها وتشجيع المدرسين ومساعدتهم على معرفة البحوث التي تناولت المشكلات المتصلة بعملهم ومشكلاتهم في الصف، والسعي لإرهاف قدرة القارئ على تقويم البحوث التي تنشر في المجالات العلمية، وبالتالي لم يتعرض في الكتاب إلى الجانب النظري إلا بشكل محدود وعند الضرورة.
كما أشار إلى ذلك في مقدمته، ولكنه تناول بعض أهم المشكلات في ميدان العلوم السلوكية، منها تحسين مردود التعليم، وإعداد المعلم، والاتجاهات في التقويم، وعلامة الوضع الاقتصادي - الاجتماعي بالتحصيل التربوي للطالب، ومشكلات الغياب الاجتماعي ... الخ
وأخيراً قدم عرضاً لبعض التقنيات الإحصائية الأساسية وأشار إلى أهميتها كأداة للبحث كما أشار إلى جذورها.
