يحاول كمال جنبلاط في هذه الرسالة تحليل وإجلاء الدوافع الحقيقية الرئيسية للثورة اللبنانية التي اندلعت نيرانها في التاسع من شهر أيار 1958، إثر مقتل الشهيد نسيب المقني. وفي هذه الرسالة يقول الحقيقة كما برزت له من خلال دراسته للتاريخ اللبناني الحديث وخاصة منذ بدايات القرن التاسع عشر حتى يوم إعداده لهذه الرسالة. ويمكن القول بأن هذه الرسالة جاءت بمثابة دراسة معمقة للتاريخ اللبناني الحديث والمعاصر، وفيه صراحة في القول، "لأن تاريخ لبنان حتى الساعة في معظمه مزور... ونهجنا السياسي المنبثق من هذا المفهوم المنحرف والمشوه للتاريخ اللبناني والسياسة اللبنانية هو أيضاً نهج مزور".
