يحاول المؤلفان في هذا الكتاب معالجة التنمية من وجهة نظر جغرافية، ارتكازاً على أربعة محاور رئيسية، الأول نظري يبين تطور الاهتمام بالتنمية جغرافياً، والثاني منهجي يلقي الضوء على النظريات والمعايير، والثالث تطبيقي يركز على تنمية الريف والحضر، والرابع يستكشف ظروف البيئات الجغرافية ودورها في التنمية. وقد قام الدكتور "عيسى علي إبراهيم" بكتابة القسم الأول والمكون من الفصول الخمسة الأولى المنصبة على موضوع التنمية بالإضافة للفصل الأخير الذي يناقش أثر التنمية في البيئة، وكتب الدكتور فتحي عبد العزيز أبو راضي القسم الثاني المعنى بالبيئة في الفصلين السادس والسابع.
