الدين الموصول بالسياسة ليس دين الفقهاء المتزمتين، ولا دين الفقهاء المتزلفين للبلاطات، بل هو دين الفضائل والفضلاء أي "صفوة الأخيار" . ويذكر لنا إبن رشد نماذج تاريخية من هذه الصفوة على رأسها النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم والخلفاء الراشدين وإبن تومرت وأبو يعقوب يوسف. فهؤلاء لم يسيّسوا الدين ولا ديّنوا السياسة، بل رسموا للتدبير السياسي والتشريع الديني مقاصد مشتركة، يسعى كل في مجاله إلى تجسيدها في إطار إستراتيجية بناء مجتمع الفضائل. وهكذا فالإختيار بين الفصل أو الوصل بين الدين والسياسة، ووجوب الإختيار بينهما والتموقع الإيديولوجي المكرس للإستقطاب الثنائي بين اليمين واليسار، لا يقدم حلولاً لهذا الإشكال بقدر ما يزيد في حدته وفرقته ...
هذا ما توصل إليه المؤلف مصطفى بن تمسك في دراسته لإبن رشد كنموذج عربي وسيطي ناضل ضد تعنت رجال الدين وادعائهم امتلاك الحقيقة المطلقة، وعارض أيضاً التوظيف الإيديولوجي والسياسي للدين، وكان أحد ضحاياه، ولكن هل يعني هذا أن إبن رشد يسند الدين دوراً بعدياً للفعل السياسي أم دور الرقيب والدليل الذي يحرس السياسة من انحرافاتها عن غاياتها الأولى؟ وما هي تداعيات المقاربة الرشدية على مستقبل العقلانية العربية قديماً وحديثاً؟ هذا ما سيتناوله مصطفى بن تمسك في هذا الكتاب بفكر يبني ولا يهدم، ويقول الحقيقة ولا يناور.
