مار بهنام اسم اشتهر في مركز محافظة نينوى بالعراق، العريق بحضارته وتراثه، حيث شيد دير فخم على اسمه، وما زال قائماً. يقع دير مار بهنام الشهيد على مسافة 35 كيلو متراً، جنوب شرقي الموصل، على ربوة تطل على برية فسيحة الأرجاء، بين نهر دجلة، والفرع الذي يصب فيه نهر الزاب الكبير. تقطع السيارة هذه المسافة، بنحو نصف ساعة سالكة الطريق الدولي الحديث، الموصل- الكوير، أربيل، كركوك.
دير مار بنهام الشهيد كان مأوى فريق من الرهبان والعباد السريان، الذين زهدوا في الدنيا وحطامها، وانقطعوا إلى عبادة الله تعالى محتسبين ضمن جدرانه، ليعيدوا ويحيوا الأثر الطيب، واليقين الثابت بالله الواحد الضابط الكل. فمن يكون بهنام الشهيد؟
