تعددت الروايات عن سيرة موسوليني الغرامية، حتى أن بعض الكتاب الأوروبيين تخيل فصولاً ضمنها حوادث معينة وذكر أسماء معشوقات للدوتشي توارين عن المسرح. وقد لاقت هذه التلفيقات رواجاً كبيراً في العالم عموماً وأميركا على الخصوص. ففي هذه البلاد الجديدة اعتاد القارئ أن يتقبل كل ما يروي له من الغرائب والعجائب.
وقد أطلع الأستاذ لويس الحاج على كل ما كتب في هذا الباب وغربله واستخلص منه الفصول الشائقة التي يطالعها القارئ في هذا الكتاب، محتفظاً منها بما ينطبق على ما هو معروف عن حياة موسوليني الخاصة وعن مزاجه وتصرفاته.
وهكذا قسم المؤلف كتابه إلى قسمين: الأول منهما تحدث فيه عن رواه خادم قصر البندقية، وهو الرجل الذي استقبل الدوتشي وودعه وأشرف على كل حركة وسكنة من حركات سيده وسكناته. أما القسم الثاني فتحدث فيه عن اعترافات كلارا بيتاتشي وهي ف يسجنها تتأهب لملاقاة ربها على يد أحد الكهنة، وقد استودعته مذكراتها.
