اذ بدأت العلاقة بينهما بعد أن قام عزيز بإنقاذ زينة من يد القواد جوجو الذى كان يريد أن يرمى بها فى البارات ثم نشات من هنا علاقة الحب وعزموا على الحياة سوياً
ولكن اجهصت هذة العلاقة بأن تم القبض علية وتم حبسه لمدة عشرين عاما بعد أن ورطة الكولونيل في القاعدة الجوية بقصف القصر الملكي ومن ثم تركت زينة للوحدة والإنتظار ولكن رغم ذلك تستمر زينة فى البحث عنه رغم وصولها إلى أبواب مسدودة منذ سنين
بينما عزيز تدفعة ذكرياته إلى أن يخرج من تلك الزنزانه مع بصيص أمل في ذلك الأمر
وإذ تنتهي الرواية بتزامن القبلة المؤجلة ستة وعشرين عاماً بين زينة وعزيز مع موت الملك
إنما تخلص إلى انتصار الضحية على الجلاد، وإلى حتمية زوال الاستبداد وبقاء الشعب
