في كتابه "المرقاة" يبدأ الدكتور صلاح محمد أبو الحاج في شرح مقدمة الصلاة للفقيه شمس الدين محمد بن حمزة الفناري، المتوفي سنة (834ه)، وذلك بالتوضيح والبيان لتراكيبها، والإستدلال لكثير من مسائلها، والتوثيق لفروعها من الكتب المعتمدة المشهورة، والزيادة في تفصيل مسائلها بما يحتاج إليه طالب العلم والمسلم في يحياته، حتى غدا شرحاً منيفاً، غزير الفوائد، عميم النفع لمن اراده، وسعر له. وفي هذا السياق عمد المؤلف إلى وضع دراسة مفصلة حول هذه المقدمة، وشروحها، ومكانتها العلمية، ومدى اعتماد مسائلها، مع الترجمة للعلامة الفناري رضي الله عنه؛ ليعرف قارىء الكتاب حاله ومكانته العلمية بين علماء الأمة وذلك عبر ترجمته عن طريق "ضوء الدراري في أخبار شمس الدين الفناري" لإبن كمال باشا وآخرون ترجموا له مع ذكر الإختلاف في سبب هذا الإختلاف عندهم، فبعضهم سماها "مقدمة الصلاة" مثل حاجي خليفة، والبعض الآخر سماها "عمدة المصلي" كـ "عبد الغني النابلسي" رضي الله عنه في شرحه عليها، وكذلك صاحب "الضياء المعنوي شرح مقدمة الغزنوي" حيث نقل عن "شرح عمدة المصلي"، وعن "عمدة المصلي". وقد أورد المؤلف صور من صفحات شرح النابلسي على مقدمة النابلسي وهي الصور التي اعتمدت في التحقيق والتصحيح والشرح لهذه المقدمة.
وعليه، تضمنت (المرقاة شرح مقدمة الصلاة) بيان فرائض الصلاة، والواجبات، والسنن، والمستحبات، والمحرمات، والمكروهات التي تكره في الصلاة، وذكر في المباحات، وفي المفسدات ...
