يحكي الكتاب قصة الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان -رحمه الله- واهتمامه بالتراث، وتأثره به طفلاً وشاباً، وحاكماً ورئيساً، في حياته الخاصة والعامة، وفي سياسته وإرساء دعائم دولته، وفي توجيه أبنائه وشعبه. ويعرض جوانب تاريخية في المنطقة، وبعض الأحداث الهامة لأسرة آل نهيان حكام أبوظبي. ويتكىء المؤلف على هذا الماضي مدخلاً إلى الحاضر، ويعتمد بعض الدراسات الاجتماعية في تحليل الشخصية القيادية (الكارزمية) والتأثر بالجانب السياسي في التراث. يركز الدكتور حريز في مفهوم التراث ورموزه في دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة ونظرة المجتمع إليه باحترام وتقدير، ويتطرق إلى الاهتمام بالتراث ونظرة القيادة والنخبة السياسية إليه، وقد أثرت هذه النظرة في موقف النخبة الثقافية في الدولة؛ فانسجمت نظرة المثقفين وتوافقت مع رؤية النخبة السياسية والقيادة. ورصد الكتاب إسهامات الشيخ زايد بن سلطان آل نهيان -رحمه الله- وصاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم، وصاحب السمو الشيخ الدكتور سلطان بن محمد بن القاسمي في التراث محلياً وإقليمياً ودولياً.
