محي الدين ابن العربي أو الشيخ الأكبر، فيلسوف صوفي من علماء الكلام والأصول والتصوف، وقد اختلف القول فيه، فإذا رماه البعض بالزندقة،رأى فيه آخرون عالماً ربانياً عازفاً بالله، بلغ مرتبة الأولياء الصالحين. كما ذهب آخرون إلى أنه من أتباع طريقة أهل البيت.
ولإثبات هذا القول عمد مؤلف هذا الكتاب إلى إيراد الأدلة والبراهين المستقاة من أقواله وأعماله ومن تلامذته واتباعه لإثبات تشيعه فجاء عمله هذا في جزأين، اختص الجزء الأول بإيراد القرائن والشواهد على تشيع الشيخ الأكبر وهو في قسمين، عرض المؤلف في القسم الأول لظاهرة التسنن الاثني عشري وصلة ابن عربي بها، كما تناول ظاهرة التشيع في تلامذة محي الدين والرواة عنه وظاهرة التشيع في العرفاء المعاصرين للشيخ محي الدين ابن العربي وزملائه في السلوك ويذهب المؤلف إلى أن السبب في رغبة الصوفية إلى التشيع وموالاة الأئمة من أهل البيت يكمن في مقومات مذهب الشيعة العرفانية، إذ التشيع في واقعه مدرسة عرفانية يفسر الحياة تفسيراً عرفانياً ومن هنا صار التصوف جسراً إلى التشيع.
وفي القسم الثاني من الجزء الثاني من كتابه يورد المؤلف تصريحات أعلام السنة بتشيع الشيخ محي الدين ابن العربي أو بتأثره بآراء الشيعة وأنظارهم كما يورد أيضاً تصريحات لإعلام الشيعة صرحوا بتشيعه، وهي مذكورة وفق التسلسل التاريخي كما يذكر في خاتمة هذا الجزء كلمات لإعلام الشيعة الذين أثنوا على الشيخ ابن العربي وتأثروا بشخصيته العرفانية.
