انتهت الخلافات التي استعرت بين المسلمين إلى نشوء عدد من الفرق والنحل التي قارعت بعضها البعض بالحجج والأدلة المستمدة من القرآن الكريم والأحاديث النبوية الشريفة. وادعت كل فرقة أنها الناجية التي عناها الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم في حديث الفرقة الناجية. لكن الأمر تعدى حدود الخلافات الفقهية إلى أن ترمي كل طائفة أختها بالكفر حتى وصل الأمر إلى حدة إباحة الدماء والإعراض.
وبحسب المؤلف فإنه من سماهم "السلفية" الذين كفروا الكثير من فرق المسلمين حتى أنهم ذهبوا إلى أن الشيعة لا يؤمنون بالقرآن الموجود بين أيدي المسلمين وأنهم يزعمون أنه محرف ومبدّل فيه. وهو يتصدى هنا للرد على هؤلاء حيث سيكون ذلك في ثلاثة مباحث يتعلق الأول بالتقنية.
إذ يذهب المؤلف إلى أن التقنية مشروعة وفقاً لما نص عليه الكتاب وجاءت به السنة كقوله تعالى "إلا أن تتقوا منهم تقاة" وهو يرى أن في السنة أمثلة وشواهد كثيرة كحادثة الأسيرين اللذين وقعا في أسر مسيلمة الكذاب فأحدهما قتل عندما لم يمتثل لما طلب منه والآخر سلم والمؤلف يذهب أيضاً إلى أن الشيعة يسعى بدعاً في هذا الأمر فقد شاركتهم بقية المذاهب القول بالتقنية وهو يورد أمثلة عن الأحناف، المالكية والشافعية وغيرهم، وغاية القول في ذلك أن من تكلم بشيء يخالف ما يبطنه عمد إكراه ولم يعقد على ذلك قلبه فإنه معذور في الدنيا مغفور له في الأخرى. ويدور المبحث الثاني حول تعديل الصحابة والرواية عنهم، والثالث بالتحريف.
