إن موضوع الرسالة بالغُ الأهميةِ من الناحيتين العلمية والتاريخية أما من الناحية العلمية فقد استعرض الباحث موضوع عدالة الصحابة لدى علماء المسلمين ومذاهبهم المختلفة كأهل السُّنَّة والجماعة والشيعة الإمامية والخوارج والمعتزلة والزيدية وأحاط بها إحاطة تامة، وغاص في أعماق المسائل التي اختلفوا فيها، وانبسطت معلوماته على جميع جوانبها بأسلوب رصين وعبارة واضحة وعرض دقيق، ونقل أمين لكل من وثق الصحابة وجرحهم، ثم ذكر الشبه ومواطن الإتهام التي ابتنى عليها الخلاف والنزاع.
أما أهمية الموضوع من الناحية التاريخية فقد عرى الباحث كل الروايات التاريخية المنحرفة وكشف الأخبار الكاذبة وأبان ضعفها وزيفها عن طريق نقاد الحديث من أئمة الجرح والتعديل إما لأنها بغير سند أو لأن رواتها كذبة وضاعون.
