يضم هذا الكتاب بحوث في النحو والصرف ألقيت أكثرها على طلاب السنة الأولى من كليتي الشريعة والآداب، وحاولت أن أنهج فيها نهجاً وسطاً لا يلح في تتبع الآراء المختلفة، وإستقصاء الوجوه المتباينة التي ذهب إليها علماء المدارس النحوية الشهيرة، ولا يقطع الصلة بتراثنا الخصب، ويتنكر للبناء الضخم المحكم الذي وضعه السلف لتفسير الطاهرات اللغوية، وكشف طريقتهم في نظم الجملة العربية وإستعمال الروابط الدقيقة للكلمات بعضها مع بعض.
وقد حرصت - غالباً - على ضرب الأمثلة من القرآن الكريم - كتاب العربية الأول - وما صح من الحديث والشعر مما امتلأت به أمهات كتب النحو.
وقد جعلت الكتاب قسمين ضم الأول منهما أبحاثاً على النحو، وضم الثاني أبحاثاً في الصرف، وحرصت في القسمين كليهما أن أعنى بما اتفق عليه علماء النحو، أو بما ذهب إليه أكثرهم دون الدخول في خلافاتهم وخصوماتهم.
