هذا الكتاب الهام والمتفرد هو إعداد عدد من علماء اللغة العربية، وهو يتكون من أربعة كتب، يحتوي الأول على مبادئ النحو الضرورية وقد آثر مؤلفوا الكتاب في بيان ذلك الأمثلة والضوابط السهلة لا التعاريف المطردة المنعكسة الجامعة المانعة، وقصروا فيه الكلام على أصول الإعراب الظاهرة فلم يتطرقوا لذكر الإعراب التقديري ولا المحلي، إلا إلماما خفيفًا، ولم يتكلموا عن العلامات الفرعية كلها، حتى لا يضطرب ذهن الطالب، ثم بعد الانتهاء من هذا الكتاب يمكنهم الشروع في الكتاب الثاني المتضمن لما في الأول وزيادة مع توسعة المطالب، وتوفية الشرح بعض حقه، ثم الثالث المتضن لما في الثاني وزيادة أيضًا مع تتميم ما يطلب تتميمه، ثم الكتاب الرابع، أي أن هذا الكتاب الذي بين أيدينا يسير بتدرج يناسب الطالب أو الدارس.
ويكفينا أن نعرف أن العلامة علي الطنطاوي قد قال في هذا الكتاب: هذا الكتاب يغني الطالب بل المدرس بل الأديب عن النظر في غيره، وذلك لأنه متميز في جمعه وترتيبه وإيجاز عبارته واختيار الصحيح من القواعد.
كما درسه أيضًا العلامة سعيد الأفغاني وقد قال: لا أشبع من الترحم على مؤلفي هذه السلسلة، أقدر الآن وقد أمضيت في تدريب النحو خمسًا وخمسين سنة، أن هؤلاء الأخيار سلخوا في عملهم هذا الكتاب أوقاتا مديدة جدًا ينخلون ما بأيديهم ويصفونه بين شواهد لا تصح، وأحكام بنيت عليها لا أساس لها ..
