- حفظ ما تيسر من القرآن الكريم ، فالتحق بالأزهر ثم بدار العلوم .
- تخرج سنة 1925 م وعمل بالتدريس مدة .
- ثم التحق بالتدريس في دار العلوم وظل بها حتى سن التقاعد .
- اختير عضوا بمجمع اللغة العربية سنة 1967 م .
- مؤلفاته :
1- النحو الوافي 4 أجزاء ضخمة ، وهو معلمة نحوية نفيسة .
2 - رأي في بعض الأصول اللغوية والنحوية
3 - اللغة والنحو بين القديم والحديث
4 - المتنبي وشوقي
5 - المطالعة الوافية ( كتاب مدرسي ، بالاشتراك مع آخرين )
6 - مقالات قليلة وكلمات ألقيت في المجمع .
- توفي سنة 1398 هـ = 1978م .

هذا الكتاب من أهم الكتب فى الصرف والنحو وهو دعامة العلوم العربية فمنه تستمد العون وترجع إليه فى جليل مسائلها وفروع تشريعها ولن نجد علما من هذه العلوم يستقل بنفسه عن النحو أو يستغنى عن معونته وهذه العلوم النقلية لا سبيل لاستخلاص حقائقها والنفاذ إلى إسرارها بغير هذا العلم ، فلا نستطيع إدراك وفهم كلام الله تعالى وأحاديث الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصول العقائد فأدله الأحكام وما يتبع ذلك من مسائل فقهية وبحوث شرعية مختلفة إلا بإلهام النحو وإرشاده وقد اجمع الأثمة على أنه شرط في رتبه الاجتهاد والتى لا يستطيع أن يصل لها المجتمع إلا بالنحو ومن البديهي أن تبدأ كافة العلوم بسيطة وتزدهر مع الوقت حتى تأتي عليها يوم وتضمحل من جديد وهذا ما حدث لعلم النحو ككل العلوم فقد شابته شوائب تمت على مر الأيام وتغلغلت فيه فشوهت جماله وأضعفت شانه وهذا هو القصد من نشر هذا الكتاب إذ أراد مؤلفه أن يجمع مادة النحو كل وما يتصل به من الصرف في كتاب واحد يحول ما تضمنته مسائل كل ما تفرق في أمهات الكتب وتغنى عنها.
