في هذا الكتاب قراءات تحليلية في النص الشعري، حاول المؤلف إنجازها، والنهوض بها من خلال معايشته المتفاعلة مع الشعر العربي المعاصر، الذي تعددت مداخله القرائية، وتنوعت بتنوع مناهجها وأهدافها، وقد بدا واضحاً - على كثير منها - التأثر بالمناهج والنظريات النقدية الوافدة، كالألسنية والإحصائية والبنيوية والتفكيكية والسيميوطيقية، وغيرها من تناولات نقدية غريبة الوجه واليد واللسان عن طبيعة شعرنا العربي وقراءته، ونقده نقداً حقيقياً تؤتى ثماره.
وقد اتجه في قراءته إلى تحليل النص الشعري المطروح على بساط البحث والفحص والتمحيص، ومواجهته هو نفسه، مواجهة حقيقية، لمحاولة فهمه وتفسيره، وسبر أغواره، للكشف عن تجلياته الإبداعية، وطاقاته الجمالية، وهذه غاية النقد الأدبي، وهدفه المنشود؛ إذ ينظر إلى النص بإعتباره بنية كلية متكاملة ذات جديلة تتفاعل عناصرها صوتياً وصرفياً ولغوياً وتركيبياً.. إلخ، لتشكيل خطابه، وإنتاج دلالته الخاصة به، التي تختلف بطبيعة الحال من نموذج لآخر.
وتنوعت القراءات التي يضمها هذا الكتاب ما بين الوقوف على ظاهرة التناص مع القرآن الكريم في الشعر العربي المعاصر، والدراسة لديوان الغرفة (8) لأمل دنقل، والتناول للبناء الفني للقصيدة في الشعر الفلسطيني المعاصر في المنفي.
