يضم هذا الكتاب ثمانية وعشرين بحثًا من البحوث التي قُّدمت في "المؤتمر السنوي للتحول الديمقراطي عن: المسألة الطائفية وصناعة الأقليات في المشرق العربي" الذي عقده المركز العربي للأبحاث ودراسة السياسات على مدى ثلاثة أيام بين (13 و 15 أيلول/سبتمبر 2014) في عمّان. وتنطلق هذه البحوث من أن عملية التطييف المفرطة للسياسة في الوطن العربي عمومًا، والمشرق العربي الكبير خصوصًا، وتطييف الصراعات الإقليمية، قد أخذت تفرض على الباحثين العرب إعادة النظر في أدواتهم المفهومية والتحليلية وتطويرها وبناء أدوات جديدة على نحو يسمح بالتعرف إلى كيفية تحول المشرق العربي من بؤرة لحركات الاندماج الوطني والتكامل الاجتماعي وقضايا النهضة العربية إلى السقوط في حضيض الصراع الطائفي الهوياتي والجماعاتي الجهوي والإثني والعشائري، وتطييف السياسة. واهتم المؤتمر بذلك انطلاقًا من أن الأدوات الفكرية هي التي تحكم إنتاج الأفكار.
