إنّ الحديث عن الذاكرة التاريخيّة للأمّة يأتي في سياق هذه الهجمة الشرسة على ذاكرة الأمّة، فالحرب اليوم لا تدور بين الأساطيل والطائرات فحسب، وإنما هي حرب نفسيّة أشد ضراوة وأخطر تأثيراً، موجّهة إلى إستلاب العقول والقلوب، فيجد الإنسان نفسه مستلباً بالمقولات الآخر من دون تمحيص أو تفكير، وبذلك كلّه يتم تشكيل العقل.
فعالمياً، الأغلبيّة العظمى من البشر لا تقرأ ولا تمحّص، وإنما تتلقّى كل شيء من الخارج.
إن فهم هذه النقطة المحوريّة يعيننا على إدراك أهميّة إحياء الذاكرة التاريخيّة للأمّة، فالهجوم على التاريخ الإسلامي وإعادة تشكيله يؤثّر تأثيراً كبيراً حتى في صفوف من يُظن أنهم يقعون في طليعة المتحرّكين لعمليّة النهضة، إذ إن كثيرين من العاملين للنهضة لا يمتلكون خارطة واضحة للتاريخ البشري، وكثير من الإستشهادات والإستدلالات التي يلجؤون إليها تبدو مبتورة وفي غير موضعها، ويأتي هذا الكتاب لمحاولة ردم هذه الفجوة.
