بعد تعرّضها لحملة من الأكاذيب، تسجّل منال الشريف مذكراتها لإبنها، لا لتنشرها: "سجّلتُها لأشرح تفاصيل مشاركتي في حملة (سأقود سيارتي بنفسي)، وتفاصيل المواقف الشجاعة التي وقفها نساء ورجال يرفضون الخضوع بصمت... وبعد أن اقترح الكثير من أصدقائي أن أنشر هذه المذكرات.. توجّهت إلى عدد من دور النشر العربية، لكني قوبلت بالصمت، أو التجاهل، أو الرفض الصريح، لأن موضوع الكتاب "حسّاس.."."..كتبته بكل صدق، وحاولت أن أنظر إلى نفسي بكل عيوبي ومخاوفي وإحباطاتي وآمالي.. كتبته لأعبّر عن رفضي لفتاوى، تنظر لي نظرة دونية، فأخرست صوتي الفتنة وطمست وجهي العورة وسرقت اسمي العيب... كتبته للنساء اللواتي دفعنَ أثماناً غالية بسبب فقدانهن لحرية قرارهن"."حباً بالوطن لا هجاءً له"، كتبت منال هذه السيرة التي بعد أن نُشرت بالإنجليزية والألمانية والتركية والدنماركية، وتترجم الآن إلى الفرنسية والإسبانية والبرتغالية والإيطالية، ها هي تعود إلى ديارها.. وتعبّر منال: "إن النص العربي هو الأقرب لما أردته من هذا الكتاب"."بإصرار، ترصف منال الشريف طريقها لكي لا تكون عالة على أحد.. تجتهد في التحصيل العلمي، تصبح امرأة عاملة قادرة على تقديم المساعدة، لا استجدائها.. ترفض أن يُنظر إليها على أنها قاصر.. بشجاعة تصرّ على حقها، وتندفع للمشاركة مع أخواتها في النضال من أجل حقوق النساء في بلدها.. لتزرع الأمل بدل الإحباط، كتبت منال الشريف بقلمها، بقدر ما كتبت بدموعها سيرة كفاحها التي بين أيديكم".
